Small things worth wiring up.
When a long command finishes
Source notify-long-commands.zsh from ~/.zshrc. It sits next to dynotch in the app:
source /Applications/Dynotch.app/Contents/Resources/notify-long-commands.zsh
Any command that runs for 30 seconds or more then ends with a Done or Failed notice.
| Variable | What it does | Starts as |
|---|---|---|
DYNOTCH_LONG_COMMAND |
The threshold, in seconds | 30 |
DYNOTCH_LONG_COMMAND_DETAIL |
Set it to full to show the command’s arguments too |
Off |
The notice names the command alone, make say, since its arguments can hold tokens, and the notch is on screen when you share it.

When Claude Code needs you
Claude Code hooks can call the same command. Add this to ~/.claude/settings.json:
{
"hooks": {
"Notification": [{ "hooks": [{ "type": "command", "command": "dynotch notify 'Claude needs you' --symbol bubble.left.fill --tint orange" }] }],
"Stop": [{ "hooks": [{ "type": "command", "command": "dynotch notify 'Claude is done' --symbol checkmark.circle.fill --tint green" }] }]
}
}
This needs the dynotch command on your PATH.
A deploy that tells you when it’s done
Anything that can run a command can use the notch:
./deploy.sh && dynotch notify "Deployed" --detail "api" --symbol checkmark.circle.fill --tint green
A Shortcut that starts a focus session
In the Shortcuts app, add an Open URLs action with this link, and pin the Shortcut to the Shortcuts widget:
dynotch://timer/start
